Six ways to become a better leader
1.Balance work and play
2.Know who you are
Everyone behaves differently, so it’s important that you look at how you go about business, what works for you and what doesn’t. Take notes of these points so that you have a platform to work from.
3.Test the leadership waters
Look at an office scenario and write down how you would lead the team to get your objective completed. Now, take a look at how the current manager has gone about completing the task. Highlight points where you would do the same and mark off areas where you chose a different course of action. Now, evaluate the differences and see who would get the better results.
4.Trust your gut instinct
One of the most important qualities of a leader is not second-guessing themselves. You should ideally have an idea of what you want to do and know how to get there. Research the project beforehand to give yourself that extra edge when making decisions.
5.Believe in yourself, as others do
You didn’t get to be leader by luck; you’ve worked hard to earn it, and the higher powers are giving you the leadership role for a reason. If you receive criticism or negative feedback, use it to better your skills and knowledge.
“We don’t ask you to believe in our ability to bring change, rather, we ask you to believe in yours.” – Barack Obama
6.Accept who you are
The best leaders in the world realise that they don’t need to change who they are to be better. Instead, tweak certain aspects where needed, but stay true to yourself and how you’ve gone about your business.Being a good leader is a combination of natural instinct and knowledge. Try to cultivate your own style of leading by taking control and inspiring those around you. At the same time, try to learn from the feedback you receive and the success of your tasks. The more you put in, the more you get out.
